City of Montello, Wisconsin seeking Chief of Police

The City of Montello, Marquette County, Wisconsin, population 1500 is seeking a Chief of Police.  The candidate is to have 3 years of supervisory or administrative experience in management positions in law enforcement or a related field is preferred.  Minimum requirements include a high school diploma, a bachelor’s degree in law enforcement or a related field is preferred, a valid Wisconsin driver’s license and certification by the State Training and Standards Board.  Ideal candidates should possess strong leadership and communications skills with experience in police operations and supervision.  Budgeting and personnel management is necessary.  Understanding of community policing, grant administration, crime prevention/intervention strategies and experience in labor relations recommended.  The Chief plans, organizes, directs and controls the administrative tasks for effective and efficient operation of the department.

This is a full-time exempt position that oversees the operation and activities of the Montello Police Department.  The department focuses on proactive, community-oriented policing.  The Chief must be able to work collaboratively with the Mayor, the Common Council, Sheriff’s Department, Employees, Community Members and Business Leaders.

The Chief position is a “working Chief”.  The Chief will perform patrol or officer duties as needed.
